Doranova carried out a direct injection project on an operational gas station in Finland’s capital region. According to environmental soil surveys, the soil in the area was contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons, gasoline additives and BTEX compounds.
In situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) was used as a primary remediation method in the project. Long-lasting oxidizing and activating chemicals were injected into the soil and groundwater very close to the surface of the surface with Doranova’s patented DoAct DIRECT system.
The biggest challenge of the project was to ensure safe injections of highly reactive chemicals and simultaneously to enable the normal operations of a busy gas station.
Active phase of the project lasted only two weeks. However, the chemicals used in the project will continue to clean the soil for several months. The aim of this project is to reduce the pollutant concentrations of the site to a harmless level, thus removing the restrictions on the further development of the property.
