Doranova designed, delivered and installed the landfill gas collection and utilization system to Kitwe, Zambia. The project delivery included Doranova’s “low-cost” gas wells and lines, landfill surface shaping and covering solutions as well as combined gas pumping station with CHP-equipment.
The project was partly financed by “The Energy and Environment Partnership Africa” (EEP Africa) and its aim was to demonstrate that also the methane emissions from poorly-maintained small landfills can be reduced markedly while simultaneously producing renewable electricity to local needs.
Project information:
- City of Kitwe as a customer (~0,5 million inhabitants)
- Previous open mine utilized as a uncontrolled landfill
- Area size of 10 ha, depth of 2-10 meters
- Organic content of the waste 45-50 %
