In autumn 2013, a biogas plant delivered by Doranova was implemented in Jepua. The biogas plant was implemented together with the German Weltec Biopower GmbH and it was designed to receive 90 000 tons of substrates annually. The feedstock mainly consists of pig slurry originating from nearby pig farms (transported via pipelines), manure from cows and animals bred for fur, and slaughterhouse products as well as from different types of plant and field biomasses.
The biogas plant has three approximately 4 000 m3 digestion reactors and nearly 6 000 m3 of gas storage capacity. The biogas produced in the anaerobic digestion is used in the heat generation for the biogas plant as well as for the needs for the nearby factory. A portion of the gas is enriched to be used as a biofuel in vehicles in the refueling station at the site, among other things. The digestate originating from the anaerobic digestion of the feedstock is utilized as a fertilizer in the nearby fields.
