Jepuan Biokaasu Oy began preparations for plant extension already in 2016 when the company began the environmental impact assessment procedure together with Doranova. The EIA process was finished in autumn 2017 and the environmental permit related to the plant extension was approved in spring 2018.
The aim of Jepuan Biokaasu is to grow by determinedly refining side streams originating from farms and food production industry into biomethane and organic fertilizers. For this, in the future, the company has to be able to process substrates which cannot be processed in a wet anaerobic digestion plant. Such substrates are, for example, rocks and sand -containing dry manures. Therefore, Jepuan Biokaasu decided to use the Hardferm dry anaerobic digestion concept developed by Doranova.
– We have, during the years, actively searched for a solution to digest contaminated fractions, such as fox manure and side streams of egg production , says Kurt Stenvall, CEO of BioKymppi Oy. – Currently built, 28 000 tons per year processing Hardferm-plant is the only technical solution that enables continuous anaerobic digestion with these challenging substrates, states Stenvall.
The building process started in May 2019 and the plant will be operational in June 2020.
