Hardferm biogas plants got off to a flying start in the biogas market

20.12.2019 Antti Myllärinen

Since May, 2019 Doranova has been building in Western Finland the first Hardferm biogas plant ever. The building process has progressed as planned and mechanically the plant should be ready by April, 2020. In addition to this Doranova has been actively negotiating about delivering several plant all around the World.

– The Hardferm concept developed and patented by Doranova enables biogas operators to process more challenging substrates than before. Especially in the developing markets there is a significant amount of municipal solid waste (MSW) that can no longer be landfilled in the future. Organic fractions in this MSW are of great potential to the biogas sector, tells Antti Myllärinen, the CEO of Doranova.

The biogas plant for Jepuan Biokaasu Oy was opened in 2013 and is still the largest biogas plant in Finland in terms of annual capacity. Jepuan Biokaasu aims to continue on its growth path and is therefore expanding both its reactor and purification capacity.

The Hardferm plant in Jepua will process close to 30,000 tons of challenging high solid substrates annually. Examples of these substrate are fox manure, egg production side stream, abattoir waste and green biomass. The biogas produced in the plant will be purified and utilized either in industrial processes or as traffic fuel.

– Year 2020 will be extremely interesting in Hardferm sales. We have a good pipeline for offers and the first ones are materializing into building projects during the first half of the coming year, concludes Antti Myllärinen.

Agitator shafts for the reactors were assembled in early February. Since then the process halls around the reactor structures have had their walls and roofs built.
