Doranova is delivering a biogas plant to Pielisen Bio Oy in Lieksa as a turnkey contract. Once completed, the plant will utilize agricultural and food industry by-products to produce biogas for the needs of local industries. The biogas will be efficiently transported to users through an approximately 2.5 km pipeline network constructed as part of the project.
The plant complex includes two biogas reactors (4,250 m³ and 2,500 m³), feed technology for solid and liquid fractions, a post-hygienization unit with high-efficiency heat exchangers, and storage facilities supporting the process for feedstocks and digestate. The reactor technology is based on irrigation-driven mass and heat transfer developed by German company Sauter Biogas GmbH.
The Pielisen Bio project is an excellent example of collaboration between industrial operators and farms. Local businesses reduce their carbon footprint and mitigate energy price risks, while farms benefit from supplying grass feedstocks and obtaining high-quality fertilizer products.
The construction of the plant is scheduled for the winter of 2024–2025, with commissioning planned for June 2025.
