The series of Hardferm biogas plants for the processing of challenging feedstocks will continue when Doranova builds a biogas plant for Nevel Oy in the municipality of Juuka, North Karelia, to process food production side streams and agricultural residues. At the plant under construction, Nevel Oy will process the side streams of Puljonki Oy, which manufactures restaurant sauces and broths, and will produce steam for Puljong’s needs. With the project, Puljonki Oy’s goal is to achieve an annual emission reduction of up to 1,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
The biogas plant being built in Juuka will mainly process the side streams of sauce and broth production, the most challenging of which are pulps with a high bone content. – Hardferm biogas plants are designed to process feeds containing large amounts of impurities, so the technology is well suited for handling feeds containing bone mass, says Mikko Saalasti, Business Director of Doranova’s Biogas Division.
Construction work on the plant began in April 2022 with earthworks and commissioning is scheduled for the first half of 2023.
– Doranova is very pleased that Nevel Oy chose Hardferm technology for the project. This project is an important milestone in the mainstreaming of Hardferm technology and strengthens Doranova’s role as a supplier of anaerobic digestion solutions for the treatment of challenging fractions,” concludes Mikko Saalasti.
